The test you take depends on your state of residence. Some states offer only one high school equivalency test, while others provide both options. You can find out more about what your state offers by checking here: passged.com/where-to-test.

If you live in a state that offers both the GED and HiSET, you can choose which test works best for you!

Here are some differences between the GED and HiSET:

Question style

• GED: Multiple choice, fill in the blank, drop-down, select an area and an essay
• HiSET: Multiple-choice and an essay

Scores

• GED: 45% correct to pass
• HiSET: 40% correct to pass

Number of subtests

• GED: Four - Social Studies, Science, Math and Language Arts
• HiSET: Five - Social Studies, Science, Math, Reading and Writing
