What’s the difference between a timed practice test and a self-evaluated essay?
The essay grading team—or in some cases, the school teacher—will grade your timed practice tests for you. On the other hand, self-evaluated essays are meant to help you build your writing skills through independent review and scoring.
Timed Practice Test
You’ll find these writing practice tests under the “Essays” tab in the HomeRoom. You can take as many as you’d like!
To find your essay score and feedback, follow these steps:
1. Click the "Essays" Tab on the left side of the HomeRoom.
2. Go to "Graded Essays."
3. Select "Review your essay" on the right side of the screen.
4. Your score can be found at the top left corner of the page.
The top of the “Essays” tab will indicate if your essay will be graded by the Essential Education grading team or your school.
Self- Evaluated Essays
Within the writing course, there are lessons with self-evaluated essays designed for you to apply the writing skills you learned throughout the course. The program doesn't grade the self-evaluated essays since you will need to review these essays independently and give a self-score. The lessons include writing tools to help you with this process!
